2025 has been a transformational year.
Together, we’ve advanced child safety in ways that were unimaginable when Thorn started 13 years ago. It’s all thanks to the generosity, partnership, and belief of our Cause Community.
With donors by our side, we’ve accelerated our progress in 2025:
Research and insights
- We released our sixth annual Youth Perspectives report. The youth-centered data, featured in Parents magazine, helps adults understand kids’ real online experiences, so they can take informed action.
- We’re pressing for action in the age of AI. Our stance: AIG-CSAM causes real harm today. We’re championing Safety by Design so generative AI products prevent abuse from the start.
- 2025 sextortion research surfaced alarming rates of teen victims, and of victims engaging in self-harm.
Platform safety
- Major Safer product update: 51.6 million confirmed-CSAM hashes added, providing platforms with a wider net to detect more abuse imagery and video, helping to reduce revictimization.
- To date, platforms using Thorn’s tools have detected 10.8M+ files as suspected CSAM, identified 4.1M+ CSAM files, and detected 426.5K lines of text as child sexual exploitation.
Child victim identification
- We released Thorn Detect, our newest digital forensic solution. It helps investigators quickly detect suspected child sexual abuse material and can help speed up how quickly children can be identified and removed from harm.
- For the first time, we spotlighted how our technology supports dark-web investigations. These tools shorten the path to a child’s safety by helping investigators prioritize the most critical files quickly while minimizing exposure to traumatic content.
- Currently, there are 900+ worldwide agencies using Thorn’s victim identification tools. That adoption provides a broad reach and a strong digital safety net for child victims.
Technical innovation
- The Safer Predict text classifier, already a powerful tool for identifying text-based abuse and exploitation, expanded to process Spanish content and add grooming detection. This met an important need to catch sextortion, grooming, and exploitation signals earlier and across more communities.
